2009: Leticia y su Rumbadama behoort tot de meest succesvolle latin-bands van Nederland. De zeven doorgewinterde 'salsa-machas' startten in januari en februari van 1996 met 36 concerten in Scandinavië. Terug in Nederland had het orkest in mei van dat jaar haar eerste optreden op de Nederlandse televisie. Later volgde een live-optreden van een uur in het bekende radioprogramma Tros Sesjun in oktober 1996. Andere hoogtepunten waren hun succesvolle optredens op de Latin Dance Night in Muziektheater Vredenburg in Utrecht, het Solero Zomercarnaval in Rotterdam, het Fiesta del Sol in Eindhoven, de Vierdaagse in Nijmegen, om er maar eens een paar te noemen.

Leticia y su Rumbadama stond samen in één programma met internationale salsa-toppers als de Cubaanse band 'Klimax', 'Xavier Plaza y su Orquesta Sonrisa' uit Venezuela, Tito Puente en Celia Cruz en vele anderen. Een promotiereis van Leticia naar Cuba, in december 1999, resulteerde in diverse uitnodigingen voor optredens van haar orkest in dit Mekka van de salsa.

In 1998 verscheen de 'nedersalsa'- cd van Leticia: 'NO TIENES SWING' (te bestellen via de homepage).

Naast de Cubaanse stijlen, zoals cha cha cha, guaracha, son montuno, rumba en son, staan ook de Dominicaanse merengue en de Portoricaanse plena en bomba op het repertoire. Heerlijke muziek die nog extra power krijgt door de aanstekelijke performance van de 'salsa-macha's'.
Op verzoek verzorgt de band voorafgaand aan het optreden een dansles.

LETICIA Y SU RUMBADAMA
The all female salsa-sensation of the Netherlands.

Leticia y su Rumbadama are reputed to be one of the best salsa bands in The Netherlands. Rumbadama – as the band are more popularly known – have not changed their line-up since 1996, when they performed live for Tros Sesjun on Dutch national radio and made their debut tour in Sweden and Finland. Since then they have remained a very popular and catchy part of the Latin music scene.
Already a well-known and versatile Latin 'timbalera' when she founded Rumbadama, bandleader Leticia Bal was spotted playing at the world-famous North Sea Jazz Festival in Holland. She also toured Europe for many years, sharing the stage with international salsa stars like 'Klimax' (Cuba), 'Xavier Plaza y su Orquesta Sonrisa' (Venezuela), Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, Mongo Santamaria and many others.
In the early nineties, Leticia hit the New York salsa scene to promote her first album. Then in 1999 she went to live for a while in Havana, Cuba, to play with all the local stars.
The rhythmic heart and soul of Leticia y su Rumbadama are Cuban born singer Delia Gonzalez with her very groovy maracas, Edith Mossel on congas and Leticia on timbales. Talented bass player Mick Paauwe and pianist Lilian Jarad complete the basic line-up. To play ‘Salsa Dura’ at full power, the Rumbadama line-up is joined by trumpeters Ellister van de Molen and Viktoria Bori.
Besides having a wonderful mastery of their instruments, six of the eight 'Machas' sing coro and beautifully arranged close harmony ‘mambo-riffs’, which creates Rumbadama’s immediately recognisable vocal sound.
The repertoire of Leticia y su Rumbadama spans from traditional Cuban Son to a diversity of Salsa and Caribean styles such as Cha Cha Cha, Guaracha, Son Montuno, Rumba, Plena, Bomba and the very danceable Merengue. From their very first note, people want to dance to the catchy performance of these Salsa Machas.
Leticia often invites the most celebrated guest-musicians of the Dutch Latin- and Latin-Jazz scene (Lisi Torres vocals, Leslie Lopez baby bass, Leslie Joseph steeldrums among others) to join the band.
The show can be completed with a salsa-dance lesson, during the show or before.
